Holy Monastery St. Minas of Kokkinolithari (Agios Minas Kokkinolithari), the “Meteor of Epirus”, both a natural and human monument offered to the worship of God is located in the village of the Municipality Kokkinolithari
of Filiata, on the road that connects Ioannina with Filiata through Keramitsa, and is one of the most scenic sites of the Thesprotian landscape. The Monastery’s history goes back centuries and many legends have been carried through from generation to generation up to the present day about how it was founded.
The local tradition refers to many wonders that at times have been accomplished with the grace of St. Minas, thus the Monastery attracts many pilgrims. It is one of the oldest monasteries of Giromeri, since it was mentioned in a document of 1667. It has its celebrations, where many people participate, on the 11th of November and is open to visitors all year round.
