The Local Archive of Paramythia was established in 1977, although its actual operation started in 1989 covering issues of tracking, recording, saving and development of historical archive material in the Regional Unit of Thesprotia. It includes archive material from the entire prefecture of Thesprotia, as it is the official body of the General State Archives, with the primary objective of monitoring, saving, collecting, classifying and indexing the archive material concerning the history and the cultural heritage of the Greek nation and anything related to the administrative, financial and social life of the Greek state. As of 2008, it is housed in the renovated building of the former Head Office of the Municipality of Paramythia, where, in an area of 400 sq.m. it currently has two repository rooms, reading room - library, exhibition area, offices and lecture and projections room. In the exhibition area, visitors may take a close look at primary historical sources.

EDUCATION ARCHIVES. Most of this material concerns education archives.

PRIVATE ARCHIVES. Private archives with important data on the history of Epirus, with rich photographic footage from old Paramythia and Thesprotia
and Thesprotia in general.

COMPANY AND BUSINESS ARCHIVES. Company archives, such as that of the dairy goods Commercial Company of Panagiotis Riggas and Sons, and that of the distiller Vasilis Plachouris. These archives portray the role and importance of the area in the productive and financial procedure in Epirus in the late 19th and early 20th century.

ADMINISTRATIVE & LOCAL AUTHORITIES ARCHIVES (PUBLIC AGENCIES & ORGANISATIONS)
The material mainly concerns the Communities of the Municipality of Paramythia, the Municipality of Acherontas and the Municipality of Filiata. Most of this material is dated after 1940.

The Archives are open to the public on working days from 9.00 a.m. to 15.00 p.m.
